I pulled the lock from the stock and this small piece fell on the table.  It has a hole through the middle.  Is this a spacer or ???????

I don't see a hole. Is the piece cylindrical or rectangular?
An end-on view may be helpful.

Does it still function properly with half and full cock?

Lock shown is obviously not a TC, would help to know what kind it is. Also I don't see a hole in the part. More info, please.

Added a more detail picture above.  This is a CVA Mountain Rifle lock.

That does not belong anywhere near that kind of CVA lock.

By any chance, does it fit in the bend of the mainspring?
It isn't a part of the lock, but sometimes you will find a wedge of some kind in the bend of the mainspring to make it stiffer.
It looks too long to be a spacer, but if the rifle was built from a kit the thingy might be something the builder added to correct a screw-up.

C2. I was thinking maybe a support for the lock plate screw to run thru. Any evidence of rubbing?

If the length of the extra piece is about the same as the width of the mainspring, Standing Bear is probably right.

Thanks guys,  I took a good hard look at the stock and lock fitting.  Standing Bear and Randy are correct.   It appears to be a "support for the lock plate screw to run thru".  I believe it is someone's handy work to fix a screw up because of missing or broken wood.  It's buyer beware when you buy "used" guns.

Thanks everyone.
