I've never owned one. I always bought the Renegade, or GPR. So, I found this one, and snatched it up. I'll use it for BP shoots, and probably muley hunts with a PRB. All the metal is browned, so one less thing I need to do.

The story is it came from an estate sale. It's a kit gun that was professionally built, and it looks like it was never shot. It's an early TC, so it must have just sat in the safe.

I notice all the screws are aligned. a sure sign of a good builder.

Nice looking gun!  How do you "brown" the metal if it isn't already?  I like the looks of it.

You use a browning solution. It's basically a rusting process that's controlled. The color can be controlled by how long you let it rust, and the amount of solution used.

It looks like the above gun wasn't done to give it a real deep brown color. More of an aged look. A lot of the old guns were actually blued, but got rusty, and looked browned. A lot of the original Hawken guns by the Hawken Bros were blued that got rusty.

What I really like about the about gun is the stain color, and the brass that was darkened, and looks old. I really don't like shiny brass on a gun.

I don't care for the shiny brass either.  Do you know where to get some of the browning solution?  I bought a Hawken awhile back and didn't bother to look at the barrel much when I first got it (my mistake).  I finally pulled it out of the safe and found the barrel with lots of black and orange coming out of it.  I'm waiting for a shipment of Kroil and Jb from Brownels.  If the barrel turns out to be OK, I'd really like to "brown" it.  I think that looks way better!

Track of the Wolf has it. As does most of the traditional online stores. Jon has done barrels. He can tell you what's the best product, and how to do the process. He'll see this, and answer as soon as the lazy bum gets out of bed.

Do you have a TC Hawken? If so, can you do me a favor? Can you shoulder the gun off hand left handed, and tell me if the sights line up for you.

Any hot bluing solution will brown a barrel. Just don't boil the barrel afterwards. Brownell's sells several bluing solutions. I bought one to blue my flintlock pistol. The name was Express Blue.

I shouldered it left handed and could get the sights to line up just fine.  Felt a little weird but I think you'll be OK???

Shouldered or "armed"? Those are supposed to be fired off the shoulder with that kind of butt plate.

Still called shouldered. Even if you put it in the pocket between shoulder and bicep.

Laurel mountain forge browning solution. I offer barrel browning services for $60 which includes return UPS shipping.

You never keep a gun over 5 months as I recall.

Nothing wrong with that.

I buy them, shoot them for awhile, and sell them.

That's why i'm not married anymore. I get bored with the same thing all the time.
