I found this site by accident when searching for minne balls for my 58ca 1841 Mississippi replica made by Navy Arms.
I have been shooting blackpowder since the 60's, wish I still knew what I have forgot over the years, so I may have old foggie goofy questions to replenish my memory. Laughing

I live what some call remote Idaho, we were the last county in the lower 48 that had a telephone operator and crank phones.

The Mississippi I read is a great rifle!

Welcome to the forum, I am glad you found us here on accident! Looking forward to some range reports with that rifle.

Don't feel bad. Where I live, they didnt get power lines out here until the late 1970s.

Howdy Smokin' Joe,
If memory serves me correct I have never went over 70grs 2F. I found a .570PRB and a .015 patch to be accurate and stayed with it. I use it for whitetail and keep my shots under 40 yards, old eyes. Last two bucks were 19 and 27 yards.
Some had told me their 1841's have three lands, mine has five very narrow lands, 1-72 I think.

I'm going to carry my .58 this year for deer, weather permitting, it's a flintlock.  I can only imagine that the .58cal. does a quite a number on a deer. Very Happy

Smokin' Joe,

I forget right now which mountainman/trapper it was that called his rifle "knocks em flat" and it was a 58 if memory serves correct. He killed several Griz with it.

Your 58 will do to a deer what he called his rifle!

Good luck on your hunt.

John

edit: "Knocks 'em stiff" not flat, sorry for my goof.
