PostSubject: Track of The Wolf kits   March 24th 2015, 7:16 am

Getting ready to spend close to a grand on a TOTW long rifle kit, just as soon as the extra fancy maple stock becomes available this spring. Before I stick my neck out on one I was wondering if anybody on here has built one of their guns before? And could give me some insight on these kits compared to the mass produced kits we have all built? Thanks for you're thoughts.

Unless something has changed. TOW gets their stocks from Pecatonica. If I was going to build one, and I was was once that's how I found out about this. If you buy the kit from Pecatonica you get better wood for the same grade. This comes from those i've talked to, and they said the wood always looked like one grade higher than what they ordered. Plus, if you have a problem with the stock you'll dealing directly with the company who made it. I've talked to them on the phone, and they seem like real friendly guys who want to please their customers. I'd give them a call before buying from TOW. No sense paying a middleman when you can deal direct.

Thank you! I was on that site a couple of years back. Don't know why I forgot about them.
Okay. Age. I'm sure going to arrange the order through them.
On a side note, whoever set up their site, bravo. Whoever took those pictures of the flinters all lined up on the cabin ..........I'm drooling. It haunts me. I can't sleep. I NEED ONE NOW! affraid

I know the feeling. So many guns. So little money.

I've never been disappointed w Track's wood grade in my 2 long guns and service for the barrel mods they did for my .54 half stock was great.

You missed the point. You got the grade you paid for. If you buy direct you get one grade better than you pay for.

Nobody said what you got was bad. It all comes from Pecatonica.

I wish I still had the wood I bought for the cabinet work I did 25 years ago.
Pecatonica offers walnut, cherry, all grades and figure of maple, even curly ash.  I had a load of curly cherry in the shop, $14 a board foot.  Cut it up for coffee tables.

I have done several kits from track, they are ok but Muley has some good advice....I have done several from Pectonica and rather than have a box group of parts (TOW) the will work with you...I have gotten several of their seconds on the stocks and gotten some really nice pieces...I also buy blanks from them and Dunlap Woods...Also another good source is The Gunworks out of Springfield Oregon...Any of the ways will serve you well...Thanks for reading my thoughts and opinions...
