PostSubject: Minie ball in a 58 T/C?   May 11th 2015, 12:29 pm

Has anyone tried a minie in a .58 T/C? If so, how do they work in a 1-48?

I acquired a like new .56SB barrel re-bored to .58 by Bob Hoyt. The seller told me he had it made for minies not balls, but it looks like it may have been made to T/C specs as it is 1-48.  Included were two different styles of minies, both too large in diameter to fit down the barrel. The .577 Buffalo bullets seem to be about right, but I never could get good groups with that brand in a .54 T/C.

I have a new never used RCBS #82103 58-500M which is .575 and wonder if/how it would work in my barrel. Shots would be limited to 50 yards as it would be used for bear over bait. If it will not work well I would rather sell the new mold and get the right one. Any ideas?

John

It should work the Enfield carbines have that twist rate whereas their rifle muskets are 1 in 78 I think.
