PostSubject: Rain, Runoff, New Drain, Etc.   May 31st 2015, 10:27 am

Since 1 May we've  had just over 20" of rain here.   The ground is saturated to a depth of at least two feet.

We have long had a drain in the back for the downspouts.   That drain also took good care of the runoff from the three lots that are higher in elevation.  Not this time!  Early on much of the backyard flooded.  The drains that go through the concrete footer for the  east side privacy fence are too small.  The neighbors septic sysetms were overwhelmed and it ran into our yard, of course.

Jumped out and dug 140 feet of trench.  Installed a new 4" drain that runs to the east side ditch.   Drain goes under the fence footer.   Provisions were made for subsurface  water removal to a depth of about 8".

The wheat crop here is toast.  It will be at least ten days before the combines can get into any  fields.  Getting a combine stuck is a big deal.  Several years ago i spent two days helping friends get one unstuck.
