muzz,
I think that's up to the shooter. Reason I'm saying that is I've shot 40/50 rounds from my V2 and MR and never swabbed the barrel. I do pull the B/P after 6 to 8 shots and clear the channel from the carbon. I use my drill bit and I never had a problem with removing the plug with my fingers. When I recieved my rifle from Carlos this is the plug he put in for me along with the head spacing. Maybe it's just a Ray habit.
Some guys I'm sure will say it's not necessary. So be it. Like I said above, maybe it's just a habit I fell into. Try shooting a few and check the plug. If your not having any problems removing it and it's shooting great, then work from there. Remember, every rifle is different. What may work in one may not work in another. Good Luck Wink

Cool

muzz,

I'm sure you can stretch it a little further then 6 to 8 shots. I can tell you this though. When I clean it after 8 shots, there is enough carbon to take note of.
Speaking for myself, I won't go beyond 12 shots but that's me. Remember, you always strive for consistency and if it means really great groups at 100, you do what you have to do to achieve those goals. That's just me though............ Wink

I try to do it every 10 shots to keep the flow consistent.

I never shoot more than 10 shots either. Usually less.

If you open the action, and turn the gun sideways. You can clean the BP without taking it out. Twist the drill a few times, pull out the drill and tap the BP. All the fouling will drop out. It takes me 5 seconds.

You don't need any lube/tape at all on the BP threads, or barrel threads when you use BH 209. Wash all the lube off until it's bone dry. The BP use still come loose with two fingers after firing 50 shots. With no lube, or tape it spins of and on easily, and makes keeping it clean easier if you don't want to use the drill in my above method of leaving the BP in the gun.

Seems like an extra step? I have no problem filling the powder measure from the spout on the bottle.
