PostSubject: BEST PROJECTILE FOR A CVA ACCURA V2 LR    October 6th 2015, 6:02 am

I just got my new Accura V2 LR today and plan on using BH209 powder just not sure what sabot I want to use. I'm open to suggestion TC shock waves (250gr) in my Accura V2 but want to shoot something a little heavier in my LR ML. I really want to shoot out past 200 yds if at all possible...I have a Nikon In line scope to go on it to aid with longer shots.

Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions,

Benelliman!

I would suggest the Barnes 290 grain TEZ or the 300 Harvester PT Gold behind 110 grains of BH209.  I'm sure Carlos has done some testing with the Accura LR.  You might want to look up his report and see what his gun liked best.

Benelliman, First off, welcome to the group,
You will find a lot of good info in the Range Reports, As Tony said That would be a couple of great bullets to try, You might need to play with the Harvester Crushed rib sabots, or the Smooth easy load black sabots to see which one your barrel will like. As far as being able to shoot out past 200 yards with the Accura LR, you will not have a problem, you will find out they are a lot more accurate then the shooter, When you find out what the gun likes, and you put the time in at the range, You will see how accurate they are.
Check with Carlos at Ed's gun shop, he will answer all your question and help you out with anything you might need.

I have used the Barnes 250 & 290, 300 PT Gold, and Hornady 325 FTX. All worked well with the correct sabot which takes some trial and error and trying different ones. This is out of the Traditions LDR and Bushnell 250 DOA scope. The guns are capable of doing 200 yards.

I'll chime in here too. You've gotten a lot of good info so far. I will say that you don't need a 300 grain bullet to go beyond 200 yards. Use it if you like, but the 250 Barnes TEZ or the Hornady Monoflex 250 will do everything you need. The PT Golds are a great bullet & very inexpensive from Carlos but the TEZ & the Monoflex are better.

Buy all of this stuff from Carlos. There is no one better & he will never steer you wrong.
Ed's Gun Shop 910-692-7936

This is what Ii would suggest:
110gr BH209 by volume
Barnes TEZ 250 or Monoflex .452
Harvester EZ Load sabots

Monoflex .458 / 250gr
MMP .458x50 orange sabot

Good luck, keep us posted, yell if you need help, & enjoy that fine new gun Smile

Greg

try this for your new rifle. go to the mmp sabot site and order some orange sabots for the 50 cal. i assume your rife is a 50 cal with a 1/28 twist. the mmp orange sabots are made for a .458 size bullet. the get some .458 45/70 solid base bullets in 400 grain with a short round nose. either buy them off the internet or get a mold and cast them. this will make your gun super accurate and super powerfull with tremendous stopping power on any game in north america. you can also get very very good long range accuracy with this combination. start off with 100 grains of powder behind this set up and sight it in. then increase by 5 grains up to 120 or 125. if the accuracy remains use more than 100 grains of powder, if not stop where the accuracy is best. you will have a super accurate long range gun with the stopping power of a freight train. if you do this let us know how it turns out. always wipe the barrel clean between shots no matter what kind of powder used. strong eagle

I have the 30 in Accura V2 LR with a KonusPro 275, 3-10x44 scope and have only used Hornaday 250 Gr SST bullets with 150 Gr Hodgen 777 50/50 using Federal 209A primers. In the past 8 months, I have run over 600 rounds at the range. I can group 3 rounds in a 2 inch circle at 100 yards, 3 in a 3 inch circle at 200 yards and 3 in a 10 inch circle at 300 yards. I spit patch between rounds to keep a more consistent grouping and run a brush thru the barrel 5 times after 12 rounds.

Great shooting Jim!!  By my calculations....over 600 rounds pushed by 150 gr charge equals very sore shoulder.  How do you do that?   Laughing   And I've always been told you can't get any real accuracy with 150 gr charge.  You've certainly debunked that.

I have been shooting since 1962 and find black powder a little more challenging, especially with a stiff crosswind. I use a Konus pro 275, 3-10x44 scope with 6 aiming points. At 100 yards I'm 5 inches high, at 200 yards sighted in and use between 3rd and 4th aiming point for300 yards. By the way, I have cut my eyebrow on the scope a few times, usually when I'm not concentrating.

I've always gotten good solid accuracy with 150gr of powder, it just kicks like a mule and eats up powder fast. Are they always the most accurate? No, but sometimes you can get away with it.

This year was nice and easy. 70gr 3fg Goex, 2 tags filled.

PostSubject: LONG RANGE   September 23rd 2017, 7:33 am

Finally got to my friends house to shoot out to 300 yards.....I'm very pleased with the black horn 209 powder and the federal B.O.R projectiles....it seems to shoot MOA out to 200 yds but opens up 2 or 3 MOA at 300 yds. With the Nikon IR scope it makes it easy to shoot at that range....use their spot on app on my phone....my friend was impressed by the CVA Accura V2s ability....

In my Accura V2:
  - .44 Hornady #4305 265gr FTX
  - 70 grains by Weight BH209
  - Harvester smooth "high pressure" green sabot
  - CCI 209M primer

One ragged hole at 50-yards at the range yesterday.  I don't usually shoot that well, but hey, it happened!   In any case, it shoots darn well.

I also have shot the same combo except with a Hornady #44280 300 grain XTP hollow point.  Not as good, but it's good enough for 1 to 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

Neither of those bullets shot "as well" with the crushed rib sabot.  Not bad, but not as good.

MMP .458 Orange Sabots
Barnes Original 300 Gr. .458
110 Gr. BH209
CCI M Primer

Awesome Combo!  My .50 Apex loves it!
