For one reason or another I wound up with a couple of 1000 small rifle primers but no rifle to fit them. Over on the revolver forums shooters have been fooling with small pistol primers in a short section of 1/4 od soft aquarium tubing. I gave the small rifle primers a try in my rem 1858, fired 2 shots both locked up the cylinder. I have a tc black diamond with breech plugs for both 209 primers and # 11 caps. I plan to give the small rifle primers a try in the blk diamond, I will be using t7 3fg powder. I already fitted 2 dozen primers in the plastic tube so I am should be ready to go Monday if the weather permits. I have some bh209, now I am curious if the rifle primers will kick it? Anyone try this?

don't use bh209 in that black diamond, shooters have been injured from the primer coming out hitting them in the forehead/face area when loaded with bh209. Its not designed for open top plunger rifles.

i did a couple of trials with the small rifle primers. both days i tried them there was not much light, fog, drizzle and a covered firing range did not help the 70 yr old eyes. the first go round i used some plastic rubber tubing i got from ebay, already cut to length as keepers for caps on revolvers. i had some hang fires with those as they were to short and hard to seat correctly. the 2nd time i picked up some aquarium tubing from walmart and cut my own longer, these worked 100%. as a side note, the small rifle primers seem to burn cleaner than either the #11 caps or 209 shotgun primers in my black diamond. now i save my caps for the revolvers.
