PostSubject: T/C Omega is Alive   February 25th 2016, 6:52 am

I've taken my good ole' Omega out of storage, took off the Sightron and put on a Leupold scope that was coming off my 12ga slug gun.  With all the bullet/sabot testing I'm doing with the MR I got the bug to resurrect this one.  I've always only used 777 pellets and 777 primers with Shockwaves; never harvested anything with it and never really shot out to 100yds - always sighted at 50 and nothing more.  I'd like to play around with it a little more when I take the Acura MR back out to the range.  I want to pretty much shoot the same loads which should be 110gr BH 209, Fiocchi primers, and I'll try different bullet/sabot combos.  With the MR, I clean out the flash channel between groups with the drill bit I got with it from Carlos - will I need to do the same with the Omega?  If so, is it the same drill bit?
Here's a picture of it as it sits now; I posted a pic and comments in another thread I have but that pic was older and had the original scope on it, this is it now waiting for some range time...

Yes you will need to clean the flame channel with a drill bit on the Omega however I only do this at the end of a range session not between groups. Not sure on the drill bit size but someone will chime in on that.  I don't remember what size it was on my Encore that I sold a few years ago.

Look forward to your range report.

Remi the same bit will work for the Encore / Omega BP as the Accura MR BP.  Personally I don't think you need to use the drill bit quite as often as you stated but if you are getting great results don't change the routine.  I plan to use the same load in my Omega with the exception I use CCI Mag primers.

Now would be the time to check for what drill bit size you would need on a clean BP, I will clean mine after 10 shots or so, if I was only going to shoot that many, or less, I will wait and do it when cleaning. My problem is, I will shoot 25 to 35 rounds when I go to the range to play.
You have a REAL NICE looking set up.

One more thing, when you're cleaning the flash channel don't forget to run a welding tip cleaner through the flash hole.

Thanks guys.  I was hoping to get out and shoot this weekend but things are looking pretty busy with the kids... if I have to choose I may go do some scouting, shed hunting and trail cam checks since the weather is pretty warm for this time of year and whatever snow we had is pretty much gone.
Smokin Joe: looking forward to seeing some pics and range reports from your Omega too!

Funny part is that I was supposed to sell it when I got the MR 2 yrs ago... I just boxed it up and put it away and recently had the inkling to shoot it again so took it out... Forgot how nice it is

I have the same model Omega and it loves 110gr of BH209 and just about any pointed bullet in the 250-260 range in a harvester short black sabot. Off the bench, bullets will touch.

Like SCHUNTER, I only clean after each range session and have shot as many as 75 shots at one time and never lost accuracy.

Remi, I was wondering where you found the stainless steel filler screws when you removed the fiber optic sights?  I'm removing mine sights too and in need of a couple.

Thanks

I got them at a local gun shop years ago when the gun was still in production.  I did a quick google search and they are available on line: for example:
https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/tca-slave-screws-ss-090161031906.do
And/or check with Carlos, maybe he has them?

Omegas are the best dollar-per-dollar ML rifle ever built in modern-day ML history. The enclosed action beats  a couple Knight bolt-actions from the same time era. White Rifles would have made my list, had they been noted higher as modern-day sabot shooters. So I have White Rifles as the best dollar-per-dollar modern-day ML shooters of yesterday-era conicals.

Hey Remi,  Received my Boyd's stock today for my Omega.  One little problem, the sling swivel studs they installed in the forend are too long so the ramrod won't slide in.  So I have to see about getting shorter ones or cutting them off.  I really like the looks and feel of this Omega...I think my T/C Encore is going on the auction block. Very Happy

Remi

The only thing better than your pictured Slip 2000 gun oil is Slip 2000EWL. To add another plus for the applicator, that's the first drip applicator that I found won't leak when squeezed.

I've kept those bottle when emptied and just remove the label for other uses.  I use one old Slip bottle for my Ballistol spray contents. I just spray some contents of Ballistol into that drip bottle...... alot less waste from overspray.
