Great Day Shooting Empty
PostSubject: Great Day Shooting   Great Day Shooting EmptyFebruary 28th 2016, 7:21 pm

I think its been about 15 years since I shot muzzleloader as I have just really got back into it. With today and yesterday being so nice I was like a kid at Christmas wanting to get out and shoot my 58 caliber rebored TC Hawken and the Lyman trade rifle I recently purchased. So I called a really close friend and we took off to the Pawnee Grasslands and went shooting. Took the bench and target stand for some sighting in purposes and had a great time. Im really impressed with the rebored 58 caliber and that Lyman trade rifle really impressed me with what they cost. It has a great trigger and shoots way better than the guy pulling the trigger can shoot it. I was shooting some Goex 2f about 80 grains at a time and I also have some Swiss 1F which I shot and it worked real well. I have about 10 lbs of it left over from my BPCR days so I think I will shoot it up when I go out to practice. I didn't shoot any maxis just round balls with .18 pillow ticking patches. The 58 cal when I sighted it in at 25 yards off the bench would put them  just about all in the same hole. We then went back to 50 yards and the guy pulling the trigger wasn't quite as good there but it was still acceptable. Need a little more trigger time and some more load development. We had a great time though and it brought back some really good memories. Al

Glad you had some nice weather to shoot in. With that big .58 ball, I imagine it takes a toll on your shoulder after a while.
My .54 shoots with less recoil than I thought it would using 2F. When I tried the same load with 3F, it made quite a difference.
