PostSubject: Dad got a visit ,,Gold RUSH   May 2nd 2016, 11:56 pm

My Dad is 82 years old and its been a struggle for him the last few years ,8 stints, one open heart surgery ,Stroke . losing his ability to speak, normal words he still can cuss tho,, 2years ago and then dementia ,We struggled for 2 years try-n to keep him home ,but heath forced us to move him to town nearer to hospital
So he's living in a very nice home with 13 other older moms and dads ,
It gets kinda boring for him being a very active guy that loved the out doors ,He worked construction ,Dams, Hi ways, Rock crushing plants ,Logging in his early years , Ruff but loved by many , when I was 6 years old  I started hound hunting with him ,Out here in Oregon we hunted bob cats ,winter, Coons ,summer months .As family we hunted deer / elk , There was 4 of us kids my twin sister being the oldest , In dads later years he really got interested in gold mining mostly prospecting ,  One of the gals that works where dads living would help him find all the gold shows on TV and program them to come on for him ,,Well it kinda cool that one of his favorite shows GOLD RUSH is doing segment hear in eastern Oregon ,near Baker city , Plus some how she knows Dave Turin from the show  ,They asked him if he would stop and say hi to DAD ,, Dave did show and what a great guy very friendly and honest man ,He was very impressed with the life that my Dad has lived and the work that they have in common , It really made Dads day , I asked Dave if it would be Okay to bring Dad up to watch them work on the claim they are at and he said yes ,, Way cool In about 2 weeks we will know for sure. With the dementia  he probably wont remember, so it will be one heck of a surprise for Dad when we load him in the Pickup and go gold mining ,Hopefully we get to meet the hole crew ,,,And get to look in the sluice box ,,, Robert

What a great gift to be able to create new good memories with your father despite some
medical challenges. I will say a prayer or two that it happens.

Keep us updated, eh?

What an opportunity to give a gift like that to your Dad! Even if he does live for the moment, the experience should give him joy. Well done!

Hobbyists around here go gold panning in North Fork of Clear Creek and some try it in the South Platte north of Denver. Even though the area is mostly played out since the rush in the 1850s, people will take out $25-50 of gold in a weekend.

That was very nice of that fellow to come visit your father. Most "stars" get the big head and don't lower themselves to talk to the "little people." Going out of his way for your dad is special. I know he appreciated it.

When I was in college, I worked as a valet for a dinner theater. The actors were over-the-hill famous people but most of them thought they were still "it". The nicest one I ever met there was Walter Pidgeon. He came out, sat on the curb with us and shot the bull for 20 minutes before refusing the Rolls-Royce that they could use. Instead, he walked 1/4 mile to the nearby shopping mall to meet other people.

Thank you guys for all the nice comments about Dad and family ,,Its his fault we were raised that way.
We are doing a living estate sale for him and I find it hard to sell off what he worked his butt off for many years ,Just remembering it for him and not us ,, Dad has a strong will to live and heal up and get going again ,,unfortunately this time his go is slower than what he used to ,,He was using a walker a year ago now all he needs is his walking stick ,, Robert

My hats off to you for doing this for your dad. You will remember this forever. My mother passed at 67 I wish I could have had more time with her. That was in 1994 I will be 67 in 3 years. Seems like I was just there yesterday. Good luck to you and I hope the trip comes off as planned and a good time is had by all Al

You will never regret what you are doing and things will come back to you 100 better for you doing what you are doing for your dad. I know I just lost my mother in law on January 12 , 2016 she had dementia. She lived with me and the wife for six years , so I know.

Will be saying a prayer . May your life be blessed from this day forth.

I am sorry for your loss.

It sounds like he was in a good place and had a good morning.
That is a blessing that is hard to fully know at this point...
But, "getting a cup of coffee and picking on the cook" meant
he got to enjoy his last time on earth. He was up out of bed
and under his own power feeling good enough to be pleasantly
mischievieous.

A lot of us know too well how much of a blessing leaving on those
terms can be.

That does not make this any easier, but it will. Go easy on yourself.
Hug those around you. Know that time will make the sting a bit easier.
You will remember how to laugh again at your Dad's antics. Sounds
like he would have wanted that.

I will say a prayer for you and your family. God keep you.

I lost my dad a few years back and know how you feel.

My dad was in intensive care and cutting up with the nurses and doctors. A doctor called me out of ic and told me "don't be fooled by the way he is acting in there, your father is very ill." He died a few days latter.

His greatest fear was ending up in a nursing home and he didn't. I found great comfort in that.

Prayers to you and your family.

I know what I'm about to say is still hard...........but what a blessing to know that your Dad is in the arms of Jesus.....82 years is a long time. Eternity is longer!

Be Blessed! lifting you before the throne of grace!

Dad was tight lipped and we are finding things out about him that would make anyone proud to have know him ,,,Military paper work from active duty in Korea ,1952-53 ,,,people that he helped threw out his life ,,he lost his dad at 13 ,quit school and went to work to help raise his 5 brothers and 4 sisters ,He had two family's widow,,, twice ,,,,
Raised 7 Kids ,, He was ruff on the outside but loved by many ,,, As a kid he ran hounds , had a big trap line,I could set a trap before learning to read ,We hunted as a family together my first buck was where dad said it was going to be ,,wait her Robert were his words ,, He hasn't hunted in a few years  because of his health , But I guess the biggest thing he did was bring the family back together again ,My brother in law and I used to be close ,but because of my rail roader life style ,,,drinking,,, it broke us up and we hadn't talked for about 12 years ,, that's behind us .when dad has his stroke we all had to come together to help dad ,,ie healed the family ,,  getting teary gotta get ,
Thank you for all your nice comments and prayers ,,When I start to get low and felling lost I remember that he is not lost but with Jesus ,,It helps me threw ...   Robert
